R/V Point Sur - Triaxus

The Triaxus towed undulating vehicle, designed and manufactured by MacArtney, is effective in achieving high resolution 3-dimensional surveys of the upper 180m of the water column. The vehicle can be flown between 3-9 knots undulating from surface to 180m depth. Triaxus also has the capability of being operated laterally outside the wake of the vessel, allowing for the sampling of surface events such as buoyant plumes and shallow mixed layers. Undulation speeds, depths, and angles are all variable and dependent upon the requested sampling scheme and required data resolution.
