R/V Point Sur - UDAS

The Underway Data Acquisition System (UDAS) on the R/V Point Sur consists of a suite of meteorological and sea surface sensors sampling at ~ 1 minute averages, the entire duration the vessel is away from the dock. A constant flow of seawater (originating from an intake on the ship's seachest, just below the sea surface, ~ 3m) feeds the sensors and drains into a sink/drain in the Main Lab where it may be sampled by scientists or plumbed to science supplied equipment. The meteorological sensors are located on the mast above the Wheelhouse. All data is interfaced and collected on one computer located in the ET lab, via a home-grown data acquisition module written in LabView.

The UDAS values can be viewed in 3 places on the ship as seen above; in ET Lab, Main Lab and on the Bridge.
The screen shot below is an example of how the data is viewed by the science party in real time.
